Hashkiveinu: Praying for Comfort and Peace
Our Shabbat service on July 18th was inspired by an inscription in one of TBC's copies of the 1908 Union Prayer-Book for Jewish Worship. The beautiful words on the inside cover of this siddur remind us that our prayers have the ability to shape our lives and experiences.
As we welcomed the Sabbath, we joined together to focus on the words of the Hashkiveinu - a prayer that asks God to shelter us with peace and guard us in a world with many dangers. Over the course of the service, we shared multiple, similarly-themed readings, and we prayed that our words would bring us and all people comfort and peace.
The following are some of the prayers that we included in our worship.
